Have Your Say

BBIRT works with the Department of Transport & Main Roads.

The Department has asked for input about future capital works. We have a resolution on our books to seek input for our Strategic Plan.

When we formulated that plan we held a meeting and members of the general public had input. It is important for community to have input.

There is a form at the bottom of this page where you can send in your ideas for the Trail in your neighbourhood or you could have direct input into our Strategic Plan here.

Sometimes it is a lot easier to just let us know your ideas for the Plan rather than plough through it.

The Department has also said BBIRT should concentrate more on developing the already open sections. Well over $700,000 has very recently been spent/is being spent on the two main open sections (about 60 klm)

This does not include the thousands of dollars worth of volunteer work, and monies spent originally opening those sections.

BBIRT’s leading priority in its Strategic Plan has been, from Day One, to work towards opening new sections.

Do you think BBIRT should continue to work towards opening new sections. A working trail through your country town or village will boost your local economy, shops and jobs. Have your say . Tap here.

People up and down the length of the trail, in unopened sections have done a lot of work already towards opening new sections with one that needs only a little work to open.

bridge across slab creek with new decking and railings

Capital Works includes decking and railing bridges, major trail surface upgrades etc for major project work.

There is a 11klm section from Monto to Mulgildie which is almost pure sand which cannot be opened without capital works money spent on the surface.

If at all possible, the trail bypasses bridges. This was not possible for this bridge. The bridge at Philpott has a 6.5 klm bypass including on bitumen highway and side roads which has been alright as a temporary measure.

A bridge at Kalpowar, which remains high priority to deck and rail has no way to bypass as it goes over the highway, and nothing can be done until TMR Roads division works out needed permissions.

The remaining bridge on the 270klm trail that cannot be bypassed is the Fifteen Mile Bridge in the Boyne Valley. Unless this bridge can be decked and railed the trail in the Boyne Valley cannot be opened.

There are several other bridges that, if decked and railed would improve the trail. However some are flood prone such as the bridges at Ceratodus & Ridler Ck, but we can bypass them and others quite easily and have done that work in places.
