Thank you everyone for your understanding on postponing the meeting last month, we had a pretty hectic first 6 months of the year & some of us need a break, well I am still having mine. Haha! If you’re following my posts we have covered some kilometres. Today we are in Walgett NSW and heading in the homely direction. Even though we didn’t have a monthly meeting the management have been meeting to keep things on track as there is so much happening on the rail trail. Thanks to the management team for always being there to attend meetings. You all rock!
Last week I sent all the politicians in our area an email regarding the upcoming election and outlined what the vision is for Boyne Burnett Inland Rail trail. As late as yesterday, I had a phone meeting with Minister Glenn Butcher explaining the benefits of the BBIRT for our rural & remote communities. Spoke with Craig England (DTMR) during the week to round off some items that had been on the agenda for a while.
- Craig said the conversation he has had with Isis Sugar was positively moving forward, nothing in writing yet but assured me that as soon as he does, he will notify us.
- There will be no funding for the washouts on the Burnett River Bridges section as all the funding is exhausted until after the election. He suggested to take it out of the maintenance money and reassess prior to the budget next year.
- If we were to open the Grosvenor to Ceratodus/Abercorn will not get any money for maintenance at this stage.
- Told him that we were successful in funding for 8 Counters. He would like to know how they go. (Jill will cover off on the counter funding)
- Talked to him about how we are updating the website.
- Discussed which bridges he thinks need to be deck & railed if we secured any funding.
Mylestone Solutions/CPL have been doing some wonderful work on the trail between Nagoorin to Ubobo. They have booked a day in 27th September for us so we don’t miss out on them coming, we need to identify what tasks to be set for them this month. Spoke to Shayne Mossman regarding doing a trial spraying between Ubobo & Nagoorin, if Shayne or Frank Harness is at the meeting can they give an update as equipment need to be hired from the council. Frank purchased the spray for the trail.
Bicycle Queensland have locked in the Camping, Caravan & Cycling weekend in Mundubbera, 3,4,5 & 6 October 2025. Due to other rail trails having events on or around MAY we have decided to move ours out until October, Also the Mundubbera Show is on in May so they said they couldn’t help with the catering if it was on the May long weekend.
Depart of Resources will be burning off in Many Peaks behind Deception Creek bridges, Bailey Street & between Gladstone Monto Road starting from next Monday. Also followed up with Peter Pickering regarding an enquiry that had reported, as a tree had fallen down on the way to Barrimon Siding. Peter was going to check it out early during the week.
Vicki urgently needs a hand with some history for some signage as part of the funding we received from the great team at Bendigo Community Bank we need to get these signs sorted, can someone please help Vicki with this.
I would like to thank Mark, Karen & the team from Ride4Life for their dedication on getting the Suicide Awareness Ride happening tomorrow, it has been very taxing getting numbers and they forged through the tough times like troopers. I know you will all have a wonderful time tomorrow; I am sad I can’t be there with you but will be thinking of you all that are attending. Please send though some pics so that I can put up on facebook of the wonderful time that you have all had.
Thanks all for coming along to the meeting today. I will see you in person next month.
